Your dog needs training equiptment that is quiet and doesnt require a lot of hand movements. Your dog needs to be able to see what you want it to do without being destracted. The training equiptment will differ between breeds. Some dogs are more active, wile others are really quiet and docile.
A dog will need to do a trick anywhere from 30 to 50 times before learning the trick. If the dog picks up a wrong way to do the trick, it will continue to do it until you can persuade it otherwise. It will take way more than 50 times for the dog to get the trick right if this happens. If your dog picks up a wrong way to do the trick, you should correct it immediately.
If you are training your dog for a long period of time and things arent working out for either you or the dog, then its time to change training techniques and/or training equiptment. Your dog might be getting too stressed out from the equiptment that you are using, and therefore, it is resisting your commands.
One small secret to training your do is to show it an object that it likes, like food or a special toy of his. Then you will need to show the dog what you want it to do. If the dog doesnt understand what you want, you should consider breaking the trick down into smaller parts. As your dog gets each part of the trick, you should reward it with the food or toy. The next step of training is to not give your dog the reward every time it completes a trick. This will make the dog want to do more to get the treat or toy. You will slowly increase the tricks without giving your tog the reward until it can do the trick ten times in a row without a reward. Then its time to change the reward from a treat or a toy, to hand gestures.
The lead you are using might be wrong for the dog. You might be using a leather lead that is heavy, but your dog might need something lighter.
