If you’ve never been to Las Vegas and don’t live in Phoenix, this city is unlike anything you have ever seen. Sweltering temperatures in the summer, cold air in the winter, and a dryness that leaves your skin clamoring for moisturizer are just some of the fun adventures waiting for the unprepared traveler.
Now that we’ve sufficiently scared you into packing accordingly, don’t worry…Vegas is going to be the best (and most hydrated) trip of your life!
What’s the temperature?
Just as where you live, Vegas gets colder in the winter and warmer in the summer. The only problem is that it gets much warmer in the summer, and sometimes a lot colder in the winter. If you are traveling between Memorial Day and Labor Day, prepare for 100 degrees + every day. During the shoulder months it gets a bit cooler, especially at night. The winter is surprisingly chilly, as well, with temperatures averaging 37 degrees on midnight of New Year’s. Pack accordingly.

Bothered by the high cost of bottled water in their hotel, hundreds of Vegas travelers become dehydrated every year and suffer heat stroke. Bring bottles of water, purchase water off-Strip, or drink from the little hotel glasses and faucets if you must. The last thing you need is a dizzy spell on Las Vegas Boulevard while you clamor to keep up with the rest of your group.First things first. If you have a car, read our Vegas Driving Guides for tips and tricks on where to go. Generally, cars are quite welcome in Las Vegas, with every casino featuring free parking to attract gamblers. Most travelers don’t know, however, that driving on the Strip can add anywhere from 5 to 35 minutes to your trip. Several roads run parallel to the Strip and offer easier access to the casinos and hotels. Use them.
